no joey i am ozy ... i am a stroke surviver bigtime...they thought i would be a vegetable but fought the bloody thing ... sailing my love .. right side of my bod was pretty paralized driving well as per.. verticle and verbal as always old son 🎉
Hey Joe, Better late than never with my feedback! I noticed that your pace seemed a bit slower during the first downwind leg (Timestamp 9:35). I noticed the telltales on the backside of your mainsail weren't flying straight backward. However, during your second downwind leg (Timestamp 26:47), your pace seemed faster than the boat behind you. This isn't a criticism, but rather a shared observation. Of course, this isn't about a basic discussion of sail positions on a broad reach but rather about optimizing performance during a race. I'm also trying to figure out the perfect tension in my mainsail to suit the course and wind strength during downwind legs. It's challenging for me to make the right adjustments. Perhaps you could discuss this topic in your livestream or share your experiences in another way. Best Winds, Robert
Круто люблю парусный спорт. Завидую вашему ветру
Yes, we certainly have the best conditions here in Greece
hey Joey I always watch joyrider with my morning coffee ...Qld oz bloody cold....have a great day sailor 🎉
Ha! I always thought that you were a Euro! That's good to know.
hay love the content, I want to tow my Hobie 18 behind a house boat. long distance, with out being on it. I have tried to tow it off the water one other time with little success. can you make any suggestion's
That's a great question for the Q+A on Friday Thanks
Dear Joe, beside the fact that you are an excellent sailor, Brigitte and I share the opinion that with Joyrider TV, running wildwind or making music you bring so much joy to so many people. You literarily are dedicated to make people happy. You will definitely have our support. Bernhard and Brigitte/ Austria.
Thank you so much for your kind words and for your support!!
Blowing dogs of trains?? Who are these rail traveling k9’s??! 😂😂 thanks for all the vids! Don’t have a lot but I’ll chip in for sure. At least cover a coffee or two.
Thanks for your support! Yes, the dogs have become tired of being blown of the chains and decided to upgrade.
Con dos cojones cada uno. Enhorabuena chicos
Ha! Yes! Thanks
Hi Joe did you get a donation from me? Not seeing it listed
There are several that are listed as anonymous. It will be one of those. Thanks very much for your support.
Hi Joe. I having trouble finding the video on when you restored you mast on a h16 with lemmon jyce and something else. Trying to clean mine up a bit.
I think this is the one: ua-cam.com/video/bnAHIkyec1Q/v-deo.html
cow tack ;->
Moooooo
Grabbing the other cat's hull is such a gangsta move! Great video.
Thanks!!
I am amazed how you pull those things off with obvious rookies as crew. Back in the day, I did similar things - but it was very challenging with crew that was not up to those levels. For regattas, I used to team up with another avid HC16 sailor, and man, we got that boat screaming! I just wish you would also do some vids in a less protected area. With real waves & swell... Adds a whole new dimension to handling the beast the HC16 is.
Yes, I agree - when the conditions allow it i'll do it. The venue where I sail is generally always flat.
Girl needs more training. And a line to the stern in her rear hand!
Indeed!
still unclear the exact behavior of the tell tales I'm looking for. but awesome for an intro!
Here's a video that should help: ua-cam.com/video/_bqs-XXFf1M/v-deo.html
Watching this as a recap. Thanks a lot. Informative and concise. Do you also have a video about how to swap out the mast & sail? Or how you store the boat? (which parts remain attached to the boat.)
Thanks very much. I'll have a look and put something together.
¹have a hobie 16 no hull #
Mystery boat. You could look for a plate on your back beam or a hull number near the back pylon.
Thanks for those tips for the high wind bear aways or heading up. How does it change with a spinnaker up on an F16/18 for heading up with high winds as we normally have the main and traveller in fairly tight downwind and the kite up. Many thanks.
That's a great Q for next week. Thanks
When I was 5 my neighbor, whom only had 1 leg, owned a Hobie cat and I've wanted one ever since I saw how spry he was on it (in the driveway). Years later I did a fly-along with a guy on a 15', and another about a week later on a 27'... a few days before I bought my 21' swing keel trailer sailor. This is what I learned on. I loved that boat and sailed her several years on Lake St.Clair (MI side). Had to sell it when I moved to another state. Now that I'm settled again (years later), I think I'm finally looking for that catamaran that I've wanted for 44 years. But I still love the monos and a Laser, Sunfish, or Buccaneer always catch my attention. But I don't care for paddling unless I'm in my kayak, so maybe it's a 27' with a diesel... Hahaha. I may never decide!
It's like there's too much choice. Thanks!
have you ever sailed on an F ONE joey.. they are really quick in big winds..I have not but would like to 🎉
No, I never had than chance. Maybe one day......
Very Nice !!
Thank you very much!
I've sailed these and the 18 & love them both. It's just a whole lot easier to avoid a pitchpole/cartwheel on an 18.
yeah for sure, the extra volume in the bows makes a big difference.
Will a cat ever continue to sail away from you without human balast on it?
yes. if the mainsheet is loose and jib is tight.
STEAL THE AIR!!!
.......air.....stolen!!
@@JoyriderTV Love doing that when you can.....it's like watching a car race and someone loses a tyre......
What would you say your max wind speed for sailing is?
for me, probably around 35 knots - in flat water
I sailed on lake huron for many years in some crazy rough water. I got used to using shroud extenders which really helped with righting the 16 hobie. Didn't need near as much weight in the bag. Also tied a small 1/4 inch rope from below the extender to to the shroud and pulled the mast tight and then put the shroud back in its place. I do this by myself a.lot.what do you think of shroud extenders?
I think as long as there's a method to prevent the mast base from jumping out, the extenders are possibly the most logical solution as they use the weight of the boat to assist the righting.
Hello Joe. Great Video! - oh that's not good - I just checked what kind I have. luckily it's the 11.😊 Maybe we see us in 3 weeks in Vasiliki. Best regards André From southern germany
Lucky. It seems that the 11 is the right choice.
Ready! Cool content, keep the adventures coming!
Thanks! Will do!
Love ya, Joe!
🤩
lovly sail
This was the video that launched the channel.
You are so trained man a risky ride from South Africa I bought myself a 14 because I love your show on sailing a catamaran
Nice! I hope that you have fun with it!
One of the best days of my life. My first solo sail. Boy Scout Camp Wente, CA, 1987. My first solo sail and it was on a Laser. I was on that boat every afternoon for two weeks after that. It capsized very easy with an inexperienced 85lb kid on it but after about the third day I had dry capsizing down and never got dunked.
Nice! The Laser is such a great boat. I have similar memories on a sailing camp many years ago. Thanks
Joe... We have to talk a lot!!!😎😎😎 ua-cam.com/video/0LYWF0ZOcPo/v-deo.html
Where I'm from, Toledo, Ohio, its called a "chicken gybe"
Yes, that's the term i'm more familiar with.
In Russia we call it 'cow tack' 😁
i dont have credit cards joe and would need bnk numbers to purchase from you...yep ya sunnies look great sailor ..p s ya knee looks a lot better 🎉
Yes, Much better, thanks!!
Great bag!
She's a beauty!!
Thanks!
I'm glad that this was helpful. Thanks for your donation!
It seems you can't have a clickable link on short videos. Unfortunately you'll have to copy and paste from the description.
Round tack
That's a new one for me.
@@JoyriderTV in Portuguese we say "bordo redondo" it means round tack, and is what's looks like.
Cool! I sometimes get Stück (one of five attemts)
Yes, it happens to everyone. I hope this helps
Lovely
Thanks!!
This is a somewhat funny procedure as it's the exact opposite of jibing when there's not enough wind to tack
Ha! Yes..
Granny tack in Aussie land
Or the chicken gybe maybe...
phew.. glad your not smuggling diamonds Joe..maybe explore more caves around your camp 🎉🎉
yes, perhaps that wouldn't be such a good career choice.
Depends a bit on the boat but this maneuver can be worse than a high wind "tight gybe" because in this "long gybe" you go through yhe power zone twice. Instead, try a tight gybe. Run ndowmwind deep deep, almost dead downwind, with mainsheet in and traveler in. The mainsail should be sailing by the lee - telltales will show flow reversed. From there, the gybe is easy, just be super careful in the steering. (The tricky trick is of this mode is to survive the bear away from reach to downwind. That takes a long explanation I wont write here).
Thanks very much for your tips. Very useful.
This is great. Would love to see you do some hobie cat sail camping. Keep it up!
Thanks! Will do - I'll get the charts out and look for an appropriate destination.
You both did an excellent job!!
Thanks! This was one of the most difficult speed runs ever.
One Thumb Up cause there's no Love It option ❤ Great vid, answers my silent question
Good question! - I must have heard it. Thanks
Amazing video, have you been watching me Joe? I have a problem with every single ones of these including a split tramp yesterday 😡⚰️
Ouch - a split tramp is a very disappointing feeling. Check out salt city sailing if you're in the market for a new non original tramp - best prices you can get.
Я в шоке насколько это круто по чти 30узлов
Yes, here in Vassiliki, Greece - the water stays flat even in the strongest wind.
